Do You Experience Life Issues?

If you suffer from any of the problems mentioned below, you may need help from a professional to get your life back on track. Dr. Brandi has experience helping people with these problems and maybe she can help you.

We feel sad over loss, we worry, we become afraid. These problems are normal and will usually go away with time. But when sadness, worry, or fear rule or ruin our lives, something needs to be done. Below are some common problems that can become serious enough to need intervention.

Anxiety

Feeling anxious for short periods over a specific cause is normal. If your anxiety prevents you from leaving the house, driving your car, or developing close relationships, you may need help. Anxiety disorders are often amenable to therapy, and you should seek help if you suffer from such severe problems.

Bipolar Disorder (Formerly Manic-Depressive Disorder)

If you cycle from excessive "highs" to crushing "lows," you could be experiencing bipolar incidents. In the "high" phase, one may experience decreased need for sleep, inflated self-esteem, increased talkativeness, or excessive involvement in high-risk activities. In the "low" phase, the mood becomes black, one needs excessive sleep, and hopelessness pervades all. Help is available through competent therapy.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Liking to do a certain thing, even though others might thing it's to excess, can be perfectly normal. However, when the activity interferes with your life and you feel you must do it, no matter what, it could be an obsession.

Repetitive/excessive behaviors such as washing one's hands, disinfecting everything, or buying huge quantities of certain items may qualify as obsessions. If you hide the activity, it tends to become more dominant in your life, and intensifies. At some point, you need to seek help from an experienced therapist.

Relationship Issues

If every person you love betrays or mistreats you, you should begin to wonder what causes you to choose such friends or lovers. One must first recognize the problem and then determine what the payoff is for this bad treatment. This is difficult for the individual to discern on his/her own. Though the world may be filled with scoundrels and cheaters, it is also filled with love and acceptance. If all you find are the scoundrels, maybe that's all you're looking for.
